SALT LAKE CITY — In a stunning internal admission, the Utah Department of Transportation confirmed it has been relying on the I-15 construction barrels as structural supports since approximately 2009, explaining why the project can never end. “If we move the barrels, the road comes with them,” said a UDOT spokesperson, adding that the barrels have since been granted tenure. Engineers estimate construction will conclude shortly after the barrels’ own construction project is finished.
